Understand your account and wallets
Choose a sign-in and custody model you understand, then protect the right recovery path.
TL;DR
- Passkey and available social sign-ins create an Orbit-managed wallet; connecting your own wallet keeps its key with you.
- The 12-word Orbit recovery phrase restores the account, not an external wallet’s seed phrase.
- Never fund the separate Platform Wallet; it is reserved, empty and cannot sign or send today.
Your Orbit account holds identity, settings and wallet access together. The route you use to enter that account decides who controls the trading-wallet key and which recovery path matters.
Choose who should hold the key
| Sign-in route | What you use | Who holds the trading-wallet key |
|---|---|---|
| Passkey | Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello or device PIN | Orbit manages the wallet key |
| Social | A provider shown in the current dialog | Orbit manages the wallet key |
| Wallet | A supported external wallet through Sign-In With Ethereum | You or your wallet provider |
An external-wallet sign-in asks you to sign a message proving control of the address. That message is not a transaction and does not move funds.
Match recovery to the account type
New Orbit accounts receive a 12-word recovery phrase. It restores the Orbit account; it does not restore a wallet you brought yourself. A successful recovery issues a new phrase and invalidates the old one.
For an external wallet, keep using that wallet’s own recovery method. Orbit never receives its key.
Keep the two wallet labels separate
Your wallet holds ETH, bought coins and any coin-owner NFT. If Orbit created it, Orbit holds the key and signs approved actions until you export that key. If you connected the wallet, control stays with you.
Platform Wallet is a reserved, predicted Orbit-controlled address for future non-transferable platform items. It is empty, cannot sign or send today and is not the wallet used for trading or deposits.
Keep recovery private
Anyone with the 12 words can recover your Orbit account. Orbit Support will never ask for them, and legitimate wallet support will never ask for a private key or seed phrase.
Common questions
What changes if I recover my Orbit account?
A successful recovery restores account access, creates a new 12-word phrase and invalidates the old phrase. Save the replacement before relying on the account again.
Can I export an Orbit-managed wallet key on Day 0?
Yes. Key export is available at launch. Export only when you are ready to store the private key securely and take direct responsibility for the wallet. Fund and withdraw safely explains the checks.
Where can I follow the setup in order?
Use Create your account to choose a sign-in path and save recovery, then fund, withdraw and control your wallet to verify the active address before funding.
